Recommending Bruce Schneier to lead the Trusted Computing group is idealistic and incredibly myopic. First off, Bruce has not exhibited the ability to serve as a manager or leader beyond putting his name behind a company run by others, as a "visionary" author, and countless bite-size media blurbs in readily-digestible rhetorical soundbites. Get real folks - the security community has suffered enough due to misplaced folkhero worship. Leading and managing SUCCESSFULLY requires significant depth of knowledge and experience beyond technical knowledge and skills. Look at the burned out shells of security companies that went/are going belly up because they were/are led by technically competent people who were/are failures at managing a business. Bill G. made a business decision, and he and Craig Mundie are going to need a very competent business person with credibility in the security industry to lead them to a better place. That being said, the list of well-qualified candidates to replace Howard Schmidt is quite slim, indeed.
