Microsoft's Staff can cope with this change 2002-02-06
Mike Walsh, Helsinki
Like many people I had this impression from Microsoft's public actions that their staff were arrogant monopolists. I thought that the reason that the MS people I had personal contact with were not like this was because they were Finns.

Then I went to the 2001 European MEC a couple of days before the main event started and had some closer contact with US-based Microsoft "working people". Then and later during the MEC I realised that they were just like you and me trying to do the best for their customers.

Earlier the company policy obviously was that "best for their customers" were "neat" new features and thus this was what they provided.

But these people are good enough to adjust to the new "Security first" policy and to make that their number one priority. Willingly and with Enthuisiasm.

Let's hope that the fact that Bill has presented this policy and given it a stupid name will keep all the marketing bonzos quiet !
