Ben, your 19th century comments get the Barry Goldwater award of the month. With RTF as your standard e-mail format, you can use as few frills and furbelos as you like and still have the ability to work with graphics, pictures, and clickable URLs. I presume you know that if you use Outlook (any version that I know of), you can insert other RTF documents in your RTF e-mail by choosing "text only" instead of "attachment," and the inserted document will appear in-line, in all its glory, with all the pictures, graphics, and/or drawings that are in it. You can then send that to people who do NOT use Microsoft Word. What more could you want?
If you do get HTML mail, you can use a nice little app called Y2KVIEW, which is actually a safe HTML viewer. I have renamed mine to HTMLview. Sorry that I don't remember where I got it -- try Google or another search engine.
Long Live Rich Text Format! (Sir Bill, please take heed!)
