What are we to make of Microsoft tapping a former hacker prosecutor and IP lawyer for its top security spot? Nothing good.

While Charney may not be the most technical person that Microsoft could have picked for the job, anyone who has worked with him knows that he has other assets on his side. He is a straight shooter. He has the intellect, intuition and experience to understand the far flung implications of security issues (even if he may not be the right guy to inspect the code). He speaks his mind (generally without regard to the political implications). And he is passionate about the need for security. And being a lawyer is not always an impediment to getting things done....especially in Washington, DC
