What are we to make of Microsoft tapping a former hacker prosecutor and IP lawyer for its top security spot? Nothing good.

Infomation Security is not so new that it has just "grown out of academic circles", it has been around a while.

Full Disclosure is not some FSF inspired "information should be free" movement. It has grown from a desire to make software vendors even somewhat responsible for the products they produce, to "inspire" them to pay attention to the poor fools who purchased their products, if they care at all for their reputation.

Frankly, it is only method that has met with even marginal success.

That is not to say you cannot provide "full disclosure" responsibly and irresponsibly, but those vendors that behave responsibly are generally treated so, and those that don't pay a heavier price. That is just my opinion.
