Free software is meant to be free. Just like "rm -rf /"
The core philosophy of Unix is not to protect against stupidity. If people want to run obsolete software, let them.
A much better solution would be to have a Unix distribution
run daily/weekly/yearly checks for updated version of the
software. We already have some of these type of things,
such as up2date, autorpm, etc.
