(one program might just refuse to start, one might print errors, one might require you to hit enter before it
starts.. who knows!)
What we really want is a SINGLE SEPARATE STANDALONE PROGRAM
that knows about all of the software on our system and just
tells us when it's out of date and can be upgraded safely.
