What you must remember is that much open-source software is ran internally, in many cases with no fear of any exploitation (especially at home).
Also, is breaking the software and denying the service better than leaving old code in place? Very very arguable. Sounds to me like you just needed to rant, and didn't think it through very clearly. Just because you have a forum to speak through that has to do with security doesn't mean you know jack about it.
