If you really consider that patching is one of the most important part of security job you are obviously ignorant of what the job is (or should be).
The most important part of the job is to help design reliable system that would not fail at any time for any reason. Relying mostly on patch means your system is badly designed in the first place and you are never secure (there are always delays between bug discovery and patches release).
If you know the job of security experts, then you know that it is to build good systems, not to do a mere work of patching, which indeed brings very little value to your company or clients.
I guess indeed your reply was only ironical to give someone the opportunity to give you such an answer. I just hope you were not serious.
