Just think, whats the percentage of businesses rely on Microsoft technology?
Now think, if Microsoft released their code, the amount of individuals who would _audit_ the code and how many exploits would result because of the auditing. It would be chaos.
Then the businesses who rely on Microsoft, would be sitting ducks and have to wait for Microsoft to release patches.
Yes, they could move over to Open Source technology, but even moving my wife over to linux is tough enough, can you imagine a corporation with 1000's of users and servers?
Migrating can be done right, but it takes time.
The best way to decrease risk is for the _entire_ technology community to make sure security as a number one priority and not an after thought.
