Unix and Linux security owes much to openness and public disclosure, but Microsoft is too far gone for sunshine to do any good.

I must say, I like the mention of MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes). They are a massive improvement on the Win32API, and make development in C++ far easier. They have small, occasional quirks (as do all API's/wrappers), but all in all they are an excellent set of tools. By providing the source as proper C++ classes and not just dumping you with a bunch of activex controls the MFC team have ensured that building complex applications using "standard" Windows frontend/architecture is now far more powerful, as you are able to derive and override control features as you wish. In code. Yes, Microsoft provide the source code to MFC. Isn't that what all the open-source nutters, sorry "evangelists" are banging on about?
The author clearly has never used MFC or Win32, and therefore makes sweeping statements about it's quality. Whether you choose to use it or not is a personal choice, but making authoritative comments on the quality of the api is way too all-inclusive. I'm wondering whether th
