It seems naive to me for us to assume that ISS posted this patch for any other reason than to promote themselves and gain commercially.

ISS's products are not that great and people, at least over here in the UK, are starting to realise this. Just look at what happened to BlackIce when they took over NetworkIce...or Real Secure, their flagship product, which is nothing but a piece of monolithic software with half the pattern files (attack signature files) of some open source alternatives.

Internet Scanner and System scanner and the like are now being easily super-seeded by far superior products that now include A.I. in their implementations, such as Pro-Checkup.

They are a commercial company out to achieve commercial gain in just about any way they can. I don't have anything against that per-se but I suspect this Klaus chap is feeling more than a little ashamed of his company...or at least he should be.
