Phishing works for so many reasons, we need to rethink browser and user interface design to provide some real-life security to the average user who doesn't see or understand the security cues.

Not exactly. The user would then be copying in the actual URL and not accidentally going somewhere completely different because a malicious e-mail had a different destination listed in HREF field of the anchor tag. The URL would be fully visible....
