Digital signatures are not the same as electronic signatures. Digital signatures are a subset of electronic signatures. They are a cryptographic operation ensureing authentication, non-repudiation and integrity... Electronic signatures on the other hand generate what the digital signatures don't which is an electronic image of a hand written signature. So bascially, when someone signs a document with an electronic signature, digital signatures are used to encrypt the data and check for changes.
