Perhaps the original author can comment on this; it's not mentioned and a little past common thought, at first, when considering this sort of thing.

If SSHD doesn't permit root logins (which it shouldn't IMHO, for security's sake), then you may have a tough time binding to a privileged port on the other machine, won't you?
