The use of ";" is but one reason why many prefer Python over PERL actually. PERL has always had an ugly syntax. That is one of the main reasons a fair amount of people I know who are programmers prefer Python to PERL. Not to be discounted either is the fact that those who simply learned PERL as their first scripting language are simply loathe to admit it has faults.
