hehehe...I was programming before Perl existed, so I guess that's not my problem :) Personally, I must agree that the ';' argument lacks substance, and I really think that the supporting opinion of 'ugly syntax' is a personal choice - not a fact to be presented in an educational reference. I am extremely comfortable with the Perl syntax, and I have always preferred a definite delimiter such as the semicolon. I find it helps in clarity and ease of organization. Perhaps, though, that opinion is from working with other programming languages that use the same or similar structures. Really, it boils down to personal experience and preference. Some people like extreme rigidity, some people prefer little to no discipline, but it all amounts to an opinion on the part of the programmer. It should be stated as such when presented to an audience.
