WiMax: Just Another Security Challenge?
Stephen Barish

Wireless networks have long been hailed as easily deployed, low-cost solutions for providing broadband services to an increasingly mobile population. As with any emerging technology, however, it wasn't long before attackers were exploiting it.

DES is not robust. DES can now be broken by personal computers in a relatively short amount of time. It's disappointing to see WiMax make use of such a broken encryption algorithm as its basis.

It doesn't seem like WiMax is inherently more secure than today's WiFi, deployed properly. The use of 802.1X in most WiMax deployments would raise the practical bar substantially, though.

I use WPA/TTLS on my WiFi network, but I know I'm one of the most secure.
