It is unfortunate that who pays the toll is not redmond's behemoth, but end users, who are largely doomed because of the monopolistic status of this market. And the last who openly dared criticize this state of affairs was readily terminated (remember D. Geer, @stake?)
A law is needed to make'em accountable of the countless faults their applications are affected, else they should be forced to ship their O.S. and applications with a sticker warning them to be "unsafe to be exposed on the Internet". Just like on cigarette packets...
