One of my credit card companies will initiate a call to my home to verify when I have made a large charge. But they ask me to call a phone number that is NOT the number on my credit card or in my billing statement if I miss the call and they leave a message. Of course I refuse to call such a number. I also refuse to respond to any call that is unsolicited and asks me for confidential verification of information. I call the number on the credit card to make sure I am getting to the company itself. I consider the credit card company to be idiots to be training their users to call any old number or to answer unsolicited calls pretending to be them. My wife and I refuse to speak to ANYONE claiming to represent any business entity. We ask them what they want, then hang up, then call what we know is a valid contact number for that business. Anyone who does otherwise in this day and age is an idiot.
