I find it difficult to believe that a group such as BellSouth or Verizon would have the audacity to deny such allegations if there is any way which those allegations might someday be proven true. They probably had nothing to do with this at all and are just responding to the accusations USA Today made with the article. I think this is a great example though of the power public media often weilds on these issues of a persons privacy or security. As a government employee, my department is accused, lied about and generally badmouthed by public media constantly and as a result, they public thinks very poorly of us. Sure, we can deny everything they throw at us, but in the end of the day, who is the public going to believe?

Anyway, back on task: AT&T may be out on this limb by themselves now.
