Choosing between an intrusive government or Islamo-fascists and other enemies of the nation, I'd probably have to go with our own govt. Far from ideal, but practical. Has everyone forgotten the tremendous oversight and intrusion by the govt in the 1939-1945 World War? Our govt has to do this stuff or we're blind to external threats. Is there any other way? (I mean, short of becoming a Democrat and sticking your head in the sand or other dark place)?

Our culture is resistant to an Orwellian world. We don't have a history like Russia or China. One could argue we are TOO transparent, so much so that we enable our enemies and destroy our own national unity - particularly with folks more intent on destroying the President than engaging and defeating our enemies.
