Being a sexual predator should be probable cause enough. If they have a megans law making sex offenders register with local authorities and alert neighborhoods they move into why not expand that to websites as well.
I could certainly argue the point that if a sex offender cannot be within 500 feet of a school, then they should at least be monitored if they are potentially communicating with kids from a nearby school, or any kids for that matter. You dont let them by a school, but its ok if they come into your home via PC? Any jury or politician would eat that up in a second.
Anyways, like I said, a simple ISP query could easily obtain this info (which may be available without a warrant, depending on the wording of megans law.. but I digress) and be WAY more effective than the script they are talking about in this article, simply based on the fact that the ones with bad intentions are the ones NOT using their real names.. however chances are better they use their real names with their ISPs.
