RFID should be used for it's purposes, identifying objects in a warehouse and on their way to the customer. In it's current state, it is far from useable for personal identification purposes. As far as I'm informed, a ID-card without a working RFID chip is still a valid ID-card so people should destroy the chip by putting the card in a microwave oven for a few seconds.

whoever had that great idea to put RFID chips in ID-cards should be sentenced to ampution below the elbow and a life-long itch in the middle of his back !
