So a hacker has found a way to read the data that's being collected about your cheating habits...

...personally, I'd say that the hackers breaking into, say MasterCard, or a bank might be worse.

...and I still don't see how the "potential" for this to be malicious is worse than things on your own PC, right now, at your house, that are malicious, that can't be found, but are doing whatever they want to do, thanks to an all but magical cloaking device. A cloaking device that was meant to hide files that checked how often you rip CDs or listen to .MP3s. A cloaking device that people are already using to hide virii.

If you're worried about your cheating habits, or somebody hacking and building a zombie out of Blizzard's Warden program, that's an easy fix. Don't play World of WarCraft. If you don't want people to phish your credit card information, and rack up your account, that's an easy fix. Don't buy stuff online with a credit card.

...if you don't want to be infected with the trojans/phishers/et cetera that you currently have installed and active right now, that Norton can't find, you've got two options...

1)...patch the rootkit to its latest version, uninstall it, run your antivirus, remove the infected files and never listen to music again from your PC

or

2) Do a full format (erase and rebuild the partition, just to be safe) reinstall everything and never put another audio CD in your PC.

Which sounds like the easier one to deal with? Keep in mind that both were supposedly within their legal rights.

Which is a bigger threat to your personal privacy? The one that is happening, or the one that might happen?
