It appears that once again a company is taking the wrong measures to solve a problem. This company is attempting to mitigate a financial risk by asking for personal information. And by doing so they are taking on even more risk, from both a legal and a financial liability perspective. All it takes is for one license to get stolen or lost for a lawsuit to be brought against the company. The legal fees alone will cost them more than their operating losses on a few dine and dashers.
A few potential fixes:
-Security cameras
-A more attentive wait staff
-A security guard posted at the front door to check that those leaving have paid for their meal (like at electronics stores)
All of these solutions of course carry their own burdens, but seem far less egregious than demanding personal data.
