The solution to this simple - assume all image based email which does not have valid SPF info AND DomainKey signatures attached AND not in your white list is spam and delete at the mail server BEFORE it gets into your inbox. These techniques don't require much processing on the client's end. Problem solved.
It won't take long for the spammers and bulk emailers and those that pay for the service to realize that they are wasting their money. Legimate senders would only need to update their SPF records and implement DomainKeys to get past the initial screening.
