Microsoft OneCare deleted Outlook e-mails 2007-03-12

I was hoping against hope that when the monopoly decided to enter the AV scene, it would do so with a competitive offering that would win it customers on something other than brand recognition. No more.

OneCare is just like the rest of the Microsoft line-up: quality below its price point, backed by suspiciously-timed and conveniently anti-competitive moves with its operating system that limit the functionality of more advanced competitors -- kernel patch protection, anyone?

Microsoft's OneCare is such a joke that it makes the typical old guard of the AV business (Symantec, McAfee, et al) seem attractive by comparison. While the rest of the industry has been largely stuck in the same place for 15 years or so, Microsoft is a decade behind even that point.

Except to see more falses, more breakage, more failed tests, and lots of significant, remotely-exploitable vulnerabilities from OneCare's initial offering. File and message parsing will be a continual problem.
