Nicholson did the prudent thing and went to work to Fix the system encompassing 235,000 VA employees. His resignation had nothing to do with this incident. Progress on tightening the security of confidential information at the USA Department of Veterans Affairs has been significant since the incident involving the stolen laptop. Nicholson left the agency to pursue private interests leaving the VA in dramatically better shape than he found it.
