Used drives or not - worst-case was a pristine drive, which is a valid test. Still, look at the numbers: about 1% of 32-bits is recoverable. In other words, 32-bits is about 1 complete four-letter word in a text document, and you get one complete word in a 100-word document. Hardly useful.

Sure, you get 32% of the charaters "correctly" in a document, for example... but the problem is you don't know which ones are correct, and which ones aren't. Sure, some words can be figured out, but 32% of the text makes for a useless document... you could probably make it say "anything".

Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting the paper's conclusions... this is simply intended as a reply to a comment-reply. I, too, am awaiting "the truth" of this study.
