I'll buy the unauthorized AP argument, but not many large financial entities in NYC share office space with smaller companies, due to the cost of a lease in that area. I'm pretty signal strength derived from a directional antenna will give you a pretty good idea of where the signal is coming from. Also, the SSID would give you a good idea of who you're dealing with.
