Seems like a very light wrist slap to me. I am more interested in example making of the kind being attempted by the State of Texas Attorney General...$100,000 per affected computer.

The recording industry is attempting to reduce the value of what they sell while raising the price, and are seeminly willing to go to any lengths to protect their outmoded business model. If I installed root kits on a few million computers I think I'd be going to prison, not paying $7.50 cash and a free album download to each victim.
