2005 – To Date, Information Security Manager with NHS 24. Currently responsible for all NHS 24 sites in Scotland with setting up BS7799 compliance; in addition to instilling security awareness program for all NHS 24 staff. Other duties include investigation of security and criminal activity on NHS 24 networks, developing IT security policies/procedures, conducting risk assessment/management reports for CEOs. Responsible for email/content monitoring in addition to full IT security network auditing.

2003 – 2005, Member of a small team of Computer Forensic Examiners/Investigators globally responsible for the investigation and retrieval of digital evidence from RAF/MOD/privately owned computer systems and mobile phones used for or involved in a wide spectrum of serious criminal and/or security breaches, including investigation of child pornography and highly sensitive military intelligence. In addition assisting Civil Police and OGAs with computer related crime. Regular presentations to various RAF IT/Police bodies including senior officers/VIPs.

2000 – 2003, Computer Security Specialist at NATO’s Military Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Belgium. Responsible for all aspects of computer security within SHAPE, including Infrastructure security controls and non-technical security controls. Involved in Policy and Compliance Management of 3 major NATO networks within SHAPE, including Email Content Management controls of Inter/Intranets, (3000+ users). The prevention, detection of security breaches against security policies. Effectively communicate computer security briefings to senior officers and civilian personnel from multi-national backgrounds. Assisting in the development of SHAPE and NATO Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT). Liaising with NATO military and civilian agencies in the development and implementation of NATO wide security policies.

1996 – 2000, Number 591 Signals Unit, Royal Air Force Digby. Management of an IT Security Health Check Team (ITSHC). An extensive rolling program of network controls compliance against the Royal Air Force’s major LAN/WAN systems within the UK and during deployed overseas operations. The ITSHC are carried out against multiple operating systems, including both NT4 & Unix. Their purpose is to ensure that systems are being operated in accordance with current company policies. Known system vulnerabilities and flaws within system configurations are detected. This included the checking of National Critical Infrastructures. Effectively communicate with the system’s divisional IT Managers and their colleagues with up to date computer security education. Assisting with the development of Royal Air Force CERT and service wide policies in respect of conducting system configuration and vulnerability checking, audit trail analysis, system penetration testing and computer software licensing & control.

1991 – 1996, Royal Air Force Provost & Security Services (Scotland) Royal Air Force Turnhouse (91-95) RAF Buchan (95-96). Counter Intelligence & Computer Security Specialist for all RAF Units within Scotland with the responsibility for conducting investigations and surveys of a security nature. Liaising with civilian Police authorities to devise and implement security measures for the protection of VVIP/VIPs, ‘high ranking’ RAF personnel, and their equipment; security documentation on and off units. Advising executive officers on the minimum standards required for the protection of all classified information and materials.
