WebKit Empty Hostname URI Handling Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability

WebKit is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability because it fails to adequately sanitize user-supplied input.

An attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary script code in the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of a targeted site. This can allow the attacker to steal cookie-based authentication credentials and launch other attacks.

NOTE: This issue was previously covered in BID 40620 (Apple Safari Prior to 5.0 and 4.1 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities) but has been given its own record to better document it.
